The annual Asha Jyothi 5K Signature Run, held recently in Chester County, Pennsylvania, showcased the power of youth leadership and community engagement in driving positive change. This event, organized by the non-profit organization Asha Jyothi, brought together nearly 1,000 participants and raised substantial funds for education and healthcare initiatives both locally and in India.
Satish, Core Volunteer Lead, and Srinivas, Chapter Lead of Asha-Jyothi PA, expressed their enthusiasm about the event’s success. “We are running out of t-shirts, which is a good thing! We have so much support this year,” Satish remarked. The preparation for this annual event is a year-round effort, with the team dedicating countless hours to ensure its success.
Beville May, Chief Communication Officer and Core Volunteer Lead, highlighted the event’s growth over the years. “I figure today we probably have quintupled the number of registrants that we have from the first year to today,” she said. May also emphasized the unique aspect of Asha Jyothi’s approach, noting, “I’ve never known a culture as committed to charitable work anywhere I’ve ever lived or worked.”

Stories carry an informal tone. This makes it an alluring format to present impressive information. When businesses use storrytelling to share the impact they have on their ecosystem, the value becomes undeniable. Paul Smith, in his book Lead with a Story, has shared 21 of the toughest challenges buisness people face. Tell a story, reinforce your value.

The event attracted a diverse group of participants and sponsors. Cole, a returning participant, shared, “This is our second year. Our daughters are members of Dragon Gym. That is where we first learnt about this fundraising run that helps raise money for education for kids who can’t get it otherwise.”
Srini Padala, Founder of Wealthguard Financial Group and a Gold Sponsor, expressed his connection to Asha Jyothi’s mission. “I love that they are focused on projects about making education and healthcare accessible for the less fortunate. This absolutely lines up with what I do in terms of financial education, only much better,” Padala stated.
What sets Asha Jyothi apart is its focus on youth leadership. Ishan, a junior at Great Valley High School and Youth Volunteer Lead, shared how the organization has impacted him: “Asha-Jyothi empowered me to get out of my comfort zone, talk to businesses, new people, and I just really was able to communicate and think on the spot, which is a really great skill to have.”
Mini, a sophomore and fellow Youth Volunteer Lead, echoed these sentiments, adding, “It definitely pushed me to get out of my shell. After maybe a year or two, I really got the hang of it, and now I can do it so easily.”
The event not only raises funds for international projects but also supports local initiatives. Dhvani Shah, a senior at Downingtown STEM Academy and Youth Volunteer Lead, mentioned, “Over the past 5 years, we’ve raised almost $7,000 for Chester County Food Bank.”

Author Ryuu Shinohara makes manifestation very acheivable through his practical examples in this book. Manifestation no longer seems like a mystic word but when guided through good practices and focus, you can certainly achieve. I recommend giving Focused Manifestation a read if you are serious about pursuing your dreams.

Asha Jyothi’s impact extends beyond fundraising. It provides young volunteers with valuable leadership experience and the opportunity to make a tangible difference in their communities. As Anagha Gopivallaba, a junior at Great Valley High School, put it, “Youth Volunteers learn so much about leadership, you are put in front of an audience to speak and present, taking responsibility as most projects let us take ownership.”
The success of the Asha Jyothi 5K Signature Run 2023 demonstrates the power of community engagement and youth leadership in driving positive change. It serves as an inspiring example of how local initiatives can have a global impact, fostering a new generation of socially conscious leaders.
